When The Past And The Present Collide
As some of you may know in my previous life I studied Environmental Science which includes learning about habitats and ecosystems. Little did I realise how useful this knowledge would be until inspired by the magnificent oak trees and their textured bark, I decided create a print which highlighted some of the fauna and flora that rely on them and so The Ancient Forest Is My Home was born. So you can imagine my excitement on Wednesday when Springwatch were discussing the oak tree and some of it's inhabitants, the pied flycatcher, bats, and the Acorn Weevil who wasn't included on my print, but probably should have been on account of how cute and strong they are. You can find out more about the creatures I did choose over on my Instagram page.
The weather here has been stunning these last few weeks and has given me lots of opportunities to get out and about and practice my newest love, film photography. I am so blessed with amazing views and architecture here that it can sometime be hard to decide where to point my camera. The photos taken in the woodlands have gone on to inspire my next lino too. The much needed rains have arrived over the last few days so the next time I get out with a camera I hope to find lush, green growth everywhere.
I managed to find this Rolleiflex SL35E tucked away in the cabinet of a local charity shop recently. I'd have missed it if my husband hadn't poked inside the bag. It's in really lovely condition and I'm enjoying shooting with it. If that's not a reminder to stay curious though I don't know what is.
With only 5 weeks left until the next Hebden Bridge Open Studios and the creative surge that seems to come with a bit of sun, my little studio is getting pretty busy as ideas are taking shape. This is the beginning piece that was inspired by my photos in the woods and again I have chosen to create it directly on the lino.I look forward to showing you the finished piece.
Well I hope you have managed to get out and enjoy a bit of nature in the lovely weather and next time you're at a charity shop or sale, remember to look in the bag. You never know what treasure might lie within.
